چکیده

We propose a novel human-computer interface for video gaming systems. Unlike current systems that use active sensors (e.g. Kinect), in the proposed approach, the human-poses are captured by a single camera and used to control the course of the game. This eliminates the need for traditional hand-held controllers and allows for the player to be immersed into the virtual environment of the game. The success of the approach is achieve through a robust extraction of human silhouettes and by a simple but effective human-pose recognizer. The system employs an adaptive framework for background subtraction using Adaptive Local Principal Component Analysis (ALPCA), which is able to handle sudden as well as gradual changes in background. Next, the extracted human silhouettes are used to train a appearancebased algorithm that can recognize the human poses. The excellent results reported here justify the elimination of active sensors and game controllers for many traditional games. a)

A Novel Approach to Background Subtraction Using Visual Saliency Map

Generally human vision system searches for salient regions and movements in video scenes to lessen the search space and effort. Using visual saliency map for modelling gives important information for understanding in many applications. In this paper we present a simple method with low computation load using visual saliency map for background subtraction in video stream. The proposed technique i...

ISO 9241-9 evaluation of video game controllers

Fifteen participants completed a study comparing video game controllers for point-select tasks. We used a Fitts’ law task, as per ISO 9241-9, using the Nintendo Wii Remote for infrared pointing, the Nintendo Classic Controller for analogue stick pointing, and a standard mouse as a baseline condition. The mouse had the highest throughput at 3.78 bps. Both game controllers performed poorly by com...

Human Body Pose Recognition Using Spatio-Temporal Templates

We present a novel approach to detecting human silhouettes in monocular sequences that achieves very low rates of both false positives and negatives by combining shape and motion information. To this end, we use sequences of moving silhouettes built using motion capture data that we match against short image sequences. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our technique using both indoor and outd...

A Framework for Human Activity Recognition using Pose Feature for Video Surveillance System

In this paper, a system framework has been presented to recognize a human activity recognition approach. The proposed framework is composed of three consecutive modules: (i) detecting and locating people by background subtraction, (ii) scale invariant contour-based pose features from silhouettes (iii) finally classifying activities of people by Multiclass Support vector machine (SVM) classifier...

Classifying Human Actions Using an Incomplete Real-Time Pose Skeleton

Currently, most human action recognition systems are trained with feature sets that have no missing data. Unfortunately, the use of human pose estimation models to provide more descriptive features also entails an increased sensitivity to occlusions, meaning that incomplete feature information will be unavoidable for realistic scenarios. To address this, our approach is to shift the responsibil...
